Base Camp Workshop: Surveying for Red Tree Voles

Monday, August 28, 2017 -
7:00pm to 9:00pm

Join us at Base Camp for a discussion about one of the forest's most fascinating tree-dwelling creatures: the red tree vole!  The tree vole is unique in that it lives its life in the canopy of old-growth forests rather than on the ground. We will be joined by folsk from the Northwest Ecosystem Survey Team (NEST) to learn more about this creature and the surveys that NEST does to protect the vole's habitat.

NEST protects old-growth forests from logging by conducting upper canopy surveys in order to find red tree vole nests. An active nest, a presently occupied nest, calls for the creation of a 10 acre habitat buffer.  Over the years, NEST has documented hundreds of active nests.

This event will take place at Bark's Base Camp.
