Bark monitors all timber projects proposed on Mt. Hood and uses the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) along with forest collaboratives to engage with the U.S. Forest Service in the decision-making process. NEPA requires the Forest Service to analyze the environmental impacts of proposed timber projects and provide information to the public to comment on the proposal. Here are the current projects that Bark and our dedicated volunteers are tracking and working to influence.
Proposed/Planning
Work In Progress
Once a project goes through the NEPA process and is approved by a Forest Service District Ranger, parts of the project are bundled into contracts to be bid on by 3rd party contractors. This could be for noncommercial thinning/fuels reduction work, commercial logging, road repair/maintenance, or a combination of all of these. Oftentimes, a project will be implemented over the course of many years and involve multiple contractors.
