Gibson Prairie Work Party

Join us on Saturday, September 28 for a clean-up event and work party at the Long Prairie Allotment east of Parkdale!

During groundtruthing surveys of the Gibson Insect and Disease project last year, Bark staff and volunteers found broken and damaged barbed wire fencing from a now vacant cattle grazing allotment on Mt Hood National Forest. Together with the Hood River Forest Collaborative, we brought this issue forward to Forest Service staff. This event is being organized to remove barbed wire fencing in the prairie to improve wildlife habitat and public safety. We hope that this is just the first step in a process to fully retire the allotment and prevent further damage in prairies from grazing cattle.

We will meet at the Hood River Ranger Station located at 6780 OR-35, Mt Hood, OR 97041. If you need to carpool from Portland or can offer a ride, fill out the carpool form (be sure to navigate to the correct tab at the bottom). Please bring lunch, plenty of water, good leather gloves, long pants, long sleeves, closed toed shoes and safety glasses. Extra personal protective equipment will be available at the event if needed.
