Wilderness Survival Workshop
Join us for a one-day introductory workshop on wilderness survival!
If you found yourself unexpectedly stranded, what would you need to do to survive and how would you do it? Using the autumn season in the Pacific Northwest as our backdrop and classroom, our goal for this class is to develop core skills to improve our chances of survival in the event of an unplanned night in the woods. We will outline basic principles of survival and identify how these principles are grounded in our bodies, demystify where strategies like shelter-building, fire, and water disinfection fit in to the picture, and reinforce all of it with hands-on practice. We will also look at several of the main reasons we end up in survival situations in the first place, and how we can plan ahead for these possibilities. By the end of it, we will all be more prepared to turn what might otherwise be an emergency into ‘inconvenient camping.’
The class will be held outside from 9am-5pm at Kelley Point Park, and will be led by our skilled partner (from Rosehip Medic Collective!) and volunteer, Jennifer V. Participants will be given a basic gear list of useful items to bring when they register, but are not expected to have to buy anything new specifically for this course unless they really want to.
