Bark + FUSEE Fire Ecology Hike

Bark and FUSEE (Firefighters United for Safety, Ethics, and Ecology) are teaming up for a fire ecology hike!
Join fire ecology expert Dr. Tim Ingalsbee (FUSEE) and Jordan Latter (Bark) for a guided hike through the Mt. Hood National Forest in an area affected by the 2020 Riverside Fire. Together, we’ll explore how fire shapes forest ecosystems and how native plants respond and recover after wildfire.
This mild/ moderate, three-mile hike offers a chance to deepen your understanding of how fire can be a regenerative force in the forest—not just a destructive one. Learn to identify native plant species, including those with edible, medicinal, or ecological significance, and gain insight into how fire-adapted landscapes support biodiversity and resilience.
Whether you’re curious about the science behind wildfire, interested in local ecology, or just looking to connect with others who care about forests and fire, this is a perfect opportunity to engage with experts and the land itself.
We will meet at the Bark office at 9:30am and carpool ~1hr 15min to the trailhead. We’ll aim to be back by 5pm. More details will be sent upon registration!
