Cascade Crest

Update on 1/24/2011: Cascade Crest has been withdrawn!

Based on an appeal submitted by Oregon Wild and Bark the Forest Service has withdrawn this biofuels project that threatened to degrade proposed wilderness and roadless areas! This project was a ‘fuels reduction’ proposal in the Olallie Butte area. The Forest Service had stated that due to past fire suppression forest fire in the area is likely in the near future. Cascade Crest was a collaborative effort with the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Reservation to remove trees for a biomass plant currently operating on the reservation. Just some of the designations meant to raise the importance of preserving the area that would have been included in this project were Proposed Wilderness, Wild and Scenic River, LSR, Inventoried Roadless Area, Scenic Recreation Area and the Pacific Crest Trail.
