Help us raise $200,000 to Protect Mt. Hood!

In 2025, as sweeping federal actions shook the foundations of long-standing environmental protections—from a mandated 25% increase in timber production and the gutting of NEPA and the Endangered Species Act, to deep Forest Service staff cuts and attempts to sell off public lands—Bark responded the only way we know how: by standing our ground and defending Mt. Hood National Forest.

With your support, this year we hosted 67 free events, including 31 field days, enabling 569 volunteers to help us groundtruth and submit comments on every proposed Mt. Hood timber project, survey 12 beaver habitat sites, and update the National Wetlands Inventory for the Oak Grove and Middle Clackamas watersheds. We drew red lines with Forest Service leadership—non-negotiable commitments to transparency, ecological integrity, and public engagement—and we’re already seeing the impact. Old-growth stands flagged by Bark were removed from the Anvil Creek project, we secured protections for wetlands and riparian areas as well as the closure of more than 20 miles of roads in & around the Stone Creek project area, and MHNF leadership has committed to sharing project data with Bark staff earlier than ever before.

This year, Bark staff also enjoyed wider recognition for our leadership on keeping the public informed and engaged with federal forest policy, improving access to MHNF for Indigenous communities, and our work to advance beaver recovery as a climate solution.

But we couldn’t do this work without you.

Because Bark is independent—funded primarily by individual community members, not corporations or government contracts—we can speak truth to power without compromise. Nearly 70% of our budget comes directly from people like you who believe Mt. Hood NF should be protected for future generations, not logged for short-term gain.

This winter, we’re launching our “Protect Mt. Hood” campaign to raise $200,000 by year’s end, including $30,000 through Willamette Week’s Give!Guide.

Mt. Hood is counting on usCan we count on your support? Let’s show this administration what independent, community-powered forest defense can do!
