Bark Out: Foraging

Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness, Mt. Hood NF

Join us as we partner with Rewild to better understand the plants emerging. Let’s remove some invasives from the ecosystem and use them in meaningful ways.

“In late winter and early spring, many edible greens begin to emerge, such as stinging nettle and dandelion. Let’s celebrate them by learning about their cultural histories, how to encourage their growth, what roles they play in ecology, how to process and prepare them, and of course, how to eat them and what nutritional value they bring. We’ll also cover the history of foraging ethics, why things are changing, and exciting ways to continue the life cycles of the plants we know and love.”

Bring appropriate gear for walking through the shade, though it is supposed to be sunny and gorgeous (low 51, high 74). Wildwood has several amenities, like several bathrooms and many benches, and is a fairly accessible path. That being said, we may do some work off path, so make sure you have appropriate shoes. Bring water and snacks just in case!

Gear that could enhance your time: guidebooks, binoculars, loops, small bags for collecting. I will be bringing some to share!
