25th Anniversary Picnic
In 1993, two friends, attorney Greg Dyson and musician John “Lenny” Rancher, began a call to action after witnessing vast clear-cuts and old-growth logging while exploring the lands now known as Mt. Hood National Forest. They began to hike each timber sale, noting the markings in the forest and calling attention to discrepancies between conditions on the ground and Forest Service documents. Soon they discovered that others shared their passion for protecting Mt. Hood and began training them to “groundtruth” as well. Eventually, Greg brought together a diverse array of dedicated professionals and passionate activists to form a working board of directors and Bark was born. Bark was officially founded in 1999 and has since saved tens of thousands of acres of forest from logging and roadbuilding and empowered thousands of volunteers to become advocates for just and ecologically sound forest management.
This year, Bark turns 25! A lot has changed over the past 25 years, but one thing that hasn’t is our commitment to building community. We can’t think of a better way to mark this special occasion than by sharing a meal and memories with you.
So help us celebrate this important milestone by joining us for Bark’s 25th Anniversary Picnic!
July 7th, 11 am-3 pm
Laurelhurst Park, Picnic Site A
For this potluck-style picnic, Bark will be grilling hotdogs, hamburgers, and veggies, but we encourage you to bring your own dish to share. There will be music, games, and a Letters to the Mt. Hood Forest Supervisor workshop! Friends & family welcome!
