Salmonberry Timber Sale
This sale of native, never been logged before forest, abuts the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness! The Auction date for the Salmonberry sale, on the border of the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness, was June 27th, 2003. It was sold by oral auction to North West Lands, Inc., for $59, 891, or $46.75 per ccf. The only other bidder was High Cascades. The Forest Service is unable to utilize nearby clearcuts to grow huckleberries. Instead, they plan to log this area on the edge of the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness to create more potential huckleberry habitat. In addition to ephemeral streams in the area (50 feet buffers only!) this sale threatens the Veda Lake (673) and Fir Tree (673 A) Hiking Trails
