Bark Campout!

Bark is hosting the first of our two planned campouts this summer! Campouts allow us to collect much more data than we’re able to do in a single field day with the added fun of hanging out with fellow Barkers at camp afterwards! You’ll get the opportunity to join us for groundtruthing, beaver habitat, and wetland verification surveys. No experience necessary!

Our first campout is focused on surveying the South Wasco Ecosystem Resiliency (SWER) project, which is currently being developed by the Forest Service. The project area is roughly south of Frog Lake, and east of Clear Lake along the National Forest and Warm Springs Reservation boundary. It is too early to know exactly what the Forest Service will be proposing, but SWER is a very large project containing a range of forest types and plant communities, including some areas of the forest with mature and old growth characteristics. The data we collect will be critical to Bark’s advocacy, defense, and restoration work.

On the first day, meet Bark staff at the Bark office at 9am. From there we will carpool/caravan to the campsite.

Can’t join us for the whole campout? No problem. Register and let us know what day(s) we should expect you! We will try to ensure that carpooling is available for folks wanting to join on Friday or Saturday.

Want to drive yourself? Great! We will send out campsite coordinates the day before the campout, when the location is finalized.

Each day will go something like this…

  • Wake up and eat breakfast, gather gear, and whatever else you need to prepare for a day of surveying.
  • Circle up in camp to discuss the plan for the day and form groups. Then, leave camp with our groups and head to our survey locations. You will be able to choose between groundtruthing (forest) surveys, wetland surveys, and beaver habitat surveys.
  • Groups will meet back at camp in the afternoon to share our findings, hang out, swim, relax, eat dinner, and sleep.

    • If you are planning on joining us for a single day, do not choose Sunday. Sundays are usually short because we are packing up camp. Friday and Saturdays are our longest survey days.

    • We ask everyone to provide for themselves because we don’t have enough equipment/water to provide for everyone. However, if you need to borrow any gear or need assistance, please reach out before the campout to let us know and we will try our best to make sure your needs are met.

More details will be sent once you register, and a reminder email with more specifics will be sent out prior to the campout start date.
